The new layout of Insight looks quite different as a result of several changes. First, the layout has been re-designed to accommodate our new navigational menu. Additionally, the new layout has been designed to leverage the larger monitor sizes that are now common (the old layout was designed nearly 7 years ago, when smaller, lower resolution monitors were common).
With the new layout changes, you'll find that your workspace for each application has increased and is centered on your screen making it easier to focus on the data and tools you are using. Additionally, many elements of the old layout have been removed as they added limited value and displaced content that should be the main focus. The result is a a more usable layout that makes completing tasks easier.
Yes. Some of our tools have already had minor tweaks made to them. These changes are often subtle but assist with the usability of our tools. Additional, changes such as these will continue as we continue to improve and refine our toolset.
One of the more noticable changes that has been made is the change(s) to look of buttons. Previoulsy, Insight had many different styles and designs of buttons. The changes we have made are to make the buttons more consistent and provide meaningful hints as to what function they perform by coloring buttons based on their function.
There are now five basic button colors. Please see the examples below:
Red buttons MODIFY data
Gray buttons NAVIGATE tools, open windows,
Blue buttons are used for HELP fuctions
Amber buttons ALERT you of a status change
Greeen buttons REFRESH data or pages |
There are many buttons in Insight. We may miss updating a few of the lesser used ones. As the developers indentify buttons that still need to be changed, they will be updated during the future weekly updates to Insight.
Yes, the search tool looks much different and is now placed prominently at the top center of the screen. No, the search tool has not recently been changed. However, at the beginning 2016 the search tool was radically imporved.
The search tool searches through both structured (pre-defined data elements) and un-structured (notes, comments, documents, etc.) data stored in Insight. Entering search terms into the search field will return interactive data elements for those items in the actual search results.
Many things. These include but are are not limited to: parts, employes, customers, vendors, documents, contacts, addresses, phone numbers, purchase orders, sales orderers, work orders, inspection logs, schedules, service cases, surveys, applications, projects, ECOs, tasks, chat topics/messages, etc.
Tip: if you search for a specific number or ID such as a part #, customer ID, sales order #, etc. and an exact match is found the search results will take you directly to that item.
Yes, for the adventurous the search tool does support advanced queries. While on the Insight Search results page, click on the 'Help/Docs' link at the top of the page (just to the right of the 'Insight Search' input field. The help section for the Insight Search tool will provide instructions on how to preform advanced searches such as: wild card searches, fuzzy searches, proximity searches and searches with boolean operators.
